update Don Broyles Sat Oct 7th

I received this update from Chris:

Passing along an update on Don. His surgery was last evening and all went well. The Dr did not have to remove quite as much of the leg, leaving it longer below the knee. This will be  helpful after the healing process when Don receives a prosthetic.
The nurse told me that Don had a good night last night. They are doing a very good job with pain control. Don is very sleepy and groggy, but when he is awake he is joking. I am told that he will be in the hospital until Monday or Tuesday. From there he will go to the Mercy rehabilitation hospital in Ozark for a couple of weeks. Thank you for all of the prayers as they have been heard and answered. God is so very good!

Knights I wanted to add a couple of things to this Email.

I stopped by the day after the surgery and saw Don and Chris, Don seem to still be in good spirits as he was joking about the amputation. His overall health is now improving, Chris said that some of the infections may have been caused by the infection that started in the heel. Don said he needed someone who can taxidermy a foot and a shark so he can mount them on the wall for future stories, but they wouldn't let him keep the foot. Chris said if anyone wants to come by feel free, also all the prayers are felt and appreciated, please keep them coming.

She also updated me on how Daisy is doing, this is an update from 4 days ago on Facebook.

Welcome to day +21 post transplant! Things have been very eventful. Last weekend Daisy was given too much tacrolimus. She was only supposed to receive a dose of .08. The doctor typed it in wrong as .8. Her taco level was dangerously high afterward. We are very lucky that there wasn’t any damage to some of her organs. During that time things quickly started returning to normal for Daisy! Her mucusitis started clearing up. She is still dealing with some vomiting from it though. She is eating on her own and taking her medications orally. Her white blood cell count went up quickly and she is engrafting! We are going through training on how to take care of her line and her new medications. With that being said Daisy is being discharged this week! One of her doctors told us she is a new record here at Children’s Mercy for the fastest discharge for a bone marrow transplant. We won’t be going home until the end of the year though. Daisy needs to stay at the Ronald McDonald house because her appointments will be so frequent and she is high risk for infection for the first 100 days. Daisy is doing so well so early. They said that never happens with children her age. Daisy is so incredibly strong. She has been so happy since she is no longer attached to the iv pole anymore. We still have a long road ahead. Please continue praying for sweet Daisy.
