Roe Vs Wade

Dear Brother Knights:

In recent days, a leak revealed an early draft opinion in the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization which, if handed down as the court’s final majority opinion, would overturn Roe v. Wade. This has led to the vandalism of churches and pregnancy resource centers, the disruption of church services and the attempted intimidation of Supreme Court justices. The United States Senate also attempted to pass legislation that would cancel state pro-life laws and expand abortion throughout the United States — all without meaningful conscience protections for medical professionals and Catholic hospitals. This legislation failed to advance due to millions of Americans, like you, contacting their Senators to voice opposition to it.

In response to all these events, the chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop José Gomez, and our own supreme chaplain, Archbishop William Lori, chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, have asked all Catholics around the country to join in fasting and praying the rosary on Friday, May 13, the memorial of Our Lady of Fatima. Specifically, they have asked us to offer our prayers and fasting for the following intentions:

• For our nation, for the integrity of our judicial system, and that all branches of government be dedicated to seeking the common good and protecting the dignity and rights of the human person, from conception to natural death.

• For the overturning of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey in the Supreme Court’s final decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

• For the conversion of the hearts and minds of those who advocate for abortion.

• For a new commitment to building an America where children are welcomed, cherished, and cared for; where mothers and fathers are encouraged and strengthened; and where marriage and the family are recognized and supported as the true foundations of a healthy and flourishing society.

• For Our Blessed Mother’s intercession and guidance as the Church continues to walk with mothers and families in need, continues to promote alternatives to abortion, and seeks to create a culture of life. 

Please join me and my family in prayer and fasting for these intentions tomorrow, on the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, and may Our Lady, her blessed spouse St. Joseph, and Blessed Michael McGivney, intercede for us and our nation.

 The bishops of our nation have asked us to pray a rosary this Friday, 13 May, on the feast of Our Lady of Fatima.  The bishops ask that “...Catholics pray for the U.S., that Roe will be overturned, for “the conversion of the hearts and minds of those who advocate for abortion,” for a culture of life in Amerca, and for the guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, “as the Church continues to walk with mothers and families in need, and continues to promote alternatives to abortion, and seeks to create a culture of life.”

protect pro-life laws!

Dear Brother Knights, Your immediate action is necessary to protect pro-life laws! This week, the United States Senate will vote on the “Women’s Health Protection Act,” deceptively named legislation that would cancel state pro-life laws and codify Roe v. Wade as the law of the land. Further, the bill would not provide meaningful religious exemptions, thus forcing Catholic medical professionals and hospitals to perform, or participate in, abortions. Not only is this legislation bad public policy, but its provisions are also deeply unpopular with the American people. Our 2022 Knights of Columbus/Marist Poll found that more than 70% of Americans would limit abortion to, at most, the first three months of pregnancy. Additionally, almost two-thirds of Americans believe that abortion should either be illegal or determined at the state level. Finally, 75% believe that doctors and nurses should be able to follow their consciences and not be forced to perform abortions. Our bishops have asked everyone to contact both of their U.S. Senators to speak out against this bill. I urge you to visit the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ action center today and register your opposition to this bill which would make abortion-on-demand the law of the land. Message from Supreme Knight

April 16, 2022 My brother Knights: On this Holy Saturday, I want to share with you this inspiring video with the stirring words of a brother Knight, the Venerable Servant of God Fulton J. Sheen: “How can we celebrate Easter in a world that is like a Good Friday?”

The past two years, and especially the past two months, have certainly felt like Good Friday as our world has grappled with the devastating COVID-19 pandemic and watched with horror the atrocities unfolding amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Yes, there can be no doubt that “evil has its hour.” But evil does not have the last word. And I am immensely proud that Knights of Columbus never sit silently in the face of evil. Knights always answer evil — in prayer and in action. We saw that when Knights resolved to leave no neighbor behind, reaching out to those in need during the pandemic. This Holy Week, I have seen it firsthand, visiting Knights in Poland and Ukraine who are working heroically to provide relief to refugees and families displaced by the war.

On Monday, April 11, I had the opportunity to meet with Pope Francis and discuss the good work being done by Knights of Columbus in response to the war. I also presented to him an Easter basket, representative of the 10,000 Easter care packages that have been assembled by Polish Knights and delivered to the suffering people of Ukraine to help them celebrate Easter. The Holy Father was moved by this expression of Christian charity and by all the good works made possible by the Order’s Ukraine Solidarity Fund. At the conclusion of the audience, Pope Francis emphatically expressed his appreciation, saying “Go on! Go on! Go on!” while making a gesture of a heart open to others. My brother Knights, the Holy Father’s message to “Go on!” with an open heart is as much for you as it is for me. And “Go on!” we will, undeterred by the spiritual battle which rages around us and our families. “Evil has its hour — but God will have His day!” On behalf of all the Supreme Officers with whom I am privileged to serve and lead the Order, I wish you and your loved ones every grace and blessing this Easter. This has been the motto of the Knights of Columbus. It simply means that Knights take seriously the two great commandments of Jesus Christ: to love God with our entire being, and to love our neighbor as ourselves (cf. Mt 22:37-40).

Here is a great opportunity to show up and help our neighbors.

At the last meeting Steve Morcus talked about a group here in Marshfield that builds beds for kids that dont have one. It is a great cause that we can help with. The group sets up build dates, one of which is coming up this Saturday 4/16 at 1pm-4pm. I would love to see all of us knights show up and help, let's live up to our motto.

Hey friends, this Saturday at 1pm, Sleep in Heavenly Peace will be building beds for local children that don’t have one of their own.  You may wonder if there are a lot of children that don’t have their own bed.  Well, since summer we have delivered over 100 beds in our area and the list continues to grow.  

We are critically low on beds and have to build more.  It takes a large number of volunteers to build the beds, but not any special skills.  If you can follow instructions, hold a sander or a hammer, or carry a board, this is your chance to get involved and help out some children in need.

The more people we have, the more beds we can build.  Plan for 1 - 4 pm on Saturday.  Stay for any or all.

Let me  know you can make it or just show up at Marshfield Assembly of God parking lot.  1528 W. Washington. Marshfield.
